Mirna Mekic

"Given that my job requires me to have a strong technical background, as well as a thorough knowledge of management practices, Maryland's telecommunications program has solidified my technical knowledge and enabled me to gain knowledge of business management and marketing strategy. Earning this degree has prepared me well for the future technical and business challenges that I may come upon in my career."

Mirna Mekic '03 is currently employed as a Product Line Manager for JDSU Corp. in Germantown, Md.

Jan Schmidt

"The topics covered in the Master's Program in Telecommunications are very beneficial. Not only am I gaining a deeper understanding of telecommunications, but also a much better grasp of the business and political aspects behind the telecommunications industry, as well as the history that it is built upon. The study of geo-politics in telecommunications has made me aware of regulation controls that my customers are restricted to, and helps me in my every day dealings with clients."

Jan Schmidt '04 is currently employed as an executive account manager with Tellabs Inc. in Germantown, Md.

Rikin Thakker

"It's a perfect balance of various disciplines like mtelecommunication management, RF engineering, and operational research in telecommunications. The fun part of this two-year journey was making new friends from different countries, learning about their cultural and industrial values, and exchanging thoughts about globalization. It changed my perspectives toward telecommunications and helped me decide that wireless communications would be the world where I was to make a difference."

Rikin Thakker '02 is currently employed as a Systems Engineer with the Andrew Corp.

Brian Coombe

"Being a student in the program impacted my career even earlier than expected. Before completing the program, my management cited my pursuing this degree as a key factor in my promotion from engineer to program manager."

Brian Coombe (graduating in '08), Program Manager, Bechtel Corp.

Neha Ajmera

"Upon graduation, I received five lucrative job offers from companies all over the country including AT&T Wireless and T-Mobile. The expertise I gained through this program not only provided me with multiple career options, but also enabled me to skillfully assess my choices."

Neha Ajmera '03, senior network performance engineer, Nokia Inc.

Tuan Nguyen-Viet

"The ENTS program has enabled me to manage a full time work schedule while attending a top-notch telecommunications program. I selected the ENTS program because of its unique niche of a cross-disciplinary program, and its relationship with the renowned A.J. Clark School of Engineering and R.H. Smith School of Business. While working as a consultant with Booz Allen Hamilton, I was assigned to land mobile radio (LMR) interoperability solution planning. The ENTS program's PCS course helped me tremendously. Because of the wireless theory I learned, I was able to adapt and adjust quickly to new assignments. My satellite communications class has benefited me in the workplace because I now have familiarity with several of the technologies. The program serves as a foundation for future knowledge that I hope to build upon while learning from my senior colleagues. It's the ideal combination of classroom and experiential learning. The instructors in the program have years of industry experience. They provide great insight on the impact of upcoming advancements and the evolution of technologies. They are also very understanding and flexible with full time professionals like me. Overall, the program and staff are outstanding. I would recommend it to any individual, working or non-working, who wants to excel in the telecommunications industry."

Tuan, a graduate of the University of Maryland's Department of Electrical Engineering, joined the Master's Program in Telecommunication (ENTS) during the Fall 2004 semester. He is currently employed as a systems engineer with the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab where he works on satellite communication systems integration and testing. During his free time, Tuan takes every opportunity to travel the world. On his most recent expedition, he went to Tanzania, Africa where he hiked to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro and ventured out for a safari on the Serengeti Plains.
