NEW TELECOMMUNICATIONS LAB WILL PROVIDE HANDS ON EXPERIENCE
IN BOTH ENGINEERING AND BUSINESS

COLLEGE PARK, Md.- The Master's Program in Telecommunications announces the opening of its new, state-of-the-art telecommunications laboratory. The unique, cross-disciplinary facility combines cutting-edge tools and resources for both engineering and business instruction.

The lab was carefully developed with the guidance of faculty, alumni, and industry leaders, all in various fields of expertise including management, wireless communications, and network engineering. After months of detailed planning, the sleek, high-tech lab will officially open its doors for use on March 12, 2007.

The 725- plus square foot workspace, designed to emulate a real-world industry environment, features 16 wood workstations outfitted with 20" screen Dell monitors and computers. The lab also includes 2 group-study areas, a 10 person conference table, and 8 overhead cabinets for student work storage. Software applications featured include Crystal Ball, OPNET Modeler, Premium Solver, MaxPlan, Satellite Toolkit, Pathloss, and Pro-Scout drive test equipment. The lab also features advanced presentation resources which include a top of the line wide screen projector, 5.1 home-theatre surround sound, and a wall-control media link. Resources will be added and changed as industry trends continue to advance.

"The equipment and technology available to our students are first-class industry resources. The level of experience that can be gained in this lab gives our students a clear competitive advantage in the job market" said Dr. Michael Dellomo, instructor at the Master's Program in Telecommunications.

In addition to individual student instruction, faculty, alumni, and industry representatives will be able to utilize the space to hold career fairs, conduct job interviews, run simulations, and hold international video conferences. The space was strategically designed to promote industry networking and to maximize the user's overall experience.

"This new lab is just one more step in making our program the premier telecommunications program in the country," stated Dr. Steven Tretter , director of the Master's Program in Telecommunications. "We look forward to the exciting opportunities it will create for our students and faculty."
